Sensational Sea The Stars Wins Arc

Arc De Triomphe Betting

A sensational final two furlongs by red hot favourite, Sea The Stars saw this fantastic colt take the 2009 Prix l’Arc de Triomphe by two lengths from the Arc perennial runner up, Youmzain.

The win came from a poor position four furlongs out after a blistering pace was set by the Ballydoyle pair, Set Sail and Grand Ducal. Somehow, jockey Mick Kinane managed to launch his attack on the inside rail and he simply took off, going past horses as if they were standing still. Once in front the race was over and he was being pulled up as he went to the line with the valiant Youmzain once again finishing in great style to be second, for the third year in succession. Cavalryman was third with Conduit fourth.

Aidan O’Brien’s main entry, Fame And Glory failed to get a blow in and finished mid-division

Supporters of Sea The Stars should be delighted by the draw as stall six has produced two winners in the last four years, Hurricane Run in 2005 and Dylan Thomas in 2007.

Other Arc Hopefuls

Stacelita finished second behind the John Gosden form filly, Dar Ri Mi, but the Stewards demoted Dar Re Mi to fifth after claiming she interfered with German filly, Soberania. Stacelita was therefore given the race and as such she has retained her unbeaten record but her previously unblemished reputation has certainly suffered as have her chances of winning the Arc. Dar re Mi is also looking likely to be an Arc entrant and is in the market with Arc de Triompe odds of 20/1, which look terrific value.

Aidan O'Brien is in quietly confident mood regarding the chances of Fame And Glory. He believes when he lost to Sea The Stars in the Irish Champions Stakes he did so after a break, whereas, Sea The Stars had been running regularly. O'Brien is certain that Fame And Glory will improve.

The leading French fancy for the Arc is now Cavalryman who won the Qatar Prix Neil, with Frankie Dettori on board and now looks certain to be supplemented for the race. He had to work hard however to hold off the staying on Beheshtam who also looks likely to run. Cavalryman has now been brought in a point or two to around the 10/1 mark, while Beheshtam is a 25/1 shot.

The Sir Michael Stoute trained, Conduit has also shortened after an impressive gallop at Newmarket the other day. There is a lot of optimism surrounding this horse, particularly as he will be running at his optimum distance which the Stoute yard think will give his colt a much better opportunity against Sea The Stars Conduit is now third favourite at around the 8/1 mark.

Nonetheless there has been nothing seen to suggest that Sea The Stars will not win the Arc this year. He still looks every bit the best horse in Europe right now and with five Group One wins already he remains our pick for the race.
