Sea The Stars

Already ranked as the best race horse in the world after winning five Group One races in 2009, Sea The Stars will start as the obvious favourite in the Arc de Triomphe odds  and will certainly be the one to beat. His season started off in blistering fashion when he opened his account on his seasonal debut by winning the Newmarket 2000 Guineas over 1 mile. In that race he had the Aidan O’Brien pair, Rip Van Winkle (4th) and Mastercraftsman (5th) behind him. His next race ended in victory in the Epsom Derby over 1 mile 4 furlongs, where he had four Aidan O’Brien horse’s immediately behind him, including Fame And Glory (2nd) and Rip Van Winkle (4th).

He reverted to 1 mile 2 furlongs when winning the Eclipse in his next outing at Sandown Park, where once again Rip Van Winkle was behind (2nd) with 2008 English St Leger winner, Conduit third.

Next up was the international Stakes at York where once again he proved too strong for Mastercraftsman (2nd) and he has rounded things off nicely so far by winning the Irish Champion Stakes in September repeating his superiority over Fame and Glory (2nd) and Mastercraftsman (3rd).

Fame And Glory

Despite never finishing outside of the first two in any of his seven starts, Fame And Glory has found Sea The Stars too good for him twice already this season, over 1 mile 4 furlongs in the Epsom Derby and over 1 mile 2 furlongs in the Irish Champion Stakes.

There is no doubting the quality of this race horse and he is clearly Aidan O’Brien’s number one but how he could reverse past form with Sea The Stars is difficult to see and he may have to be content with second place once more. To his credit he ran in blistering style to win the Irish Derby in late June and certainly gets a tough mile and half therefore the Longchamp course should suit him perfectly. Chgeck his price out in the Arc de Triomphe odds

Stacelita

This filly looks to be the best of the home horses this year and has two Group One wins, firstly the Prix Saint-Alary over a mile and 2 furlongs on soft ground at Longchamp and they she won the highly prestigious Prix De Diane in June at Chantilly on good to soft ground. With five wins from five starts, Stacelita will be trying to emulate the fantastic feat of 2008 Arc winner, Zarkava by coming only the third filly in twenty years to win the race and only the second three year old filly to do since 1983.

In her favour will be the course and probably the ground will be there to suit as well but she has a tall order with Sea The Stars in the field. She is likely to start as the top French challenger in the Arc de Triomphe odds.
