Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium)
This is the oldest and most prestigious of all races for 2 year olds in France and over the years has boasted some of the great champions amongst its winners. It is raced over 7 furlongs and is seen by many as a trial for the English, French and Irish 2000 Guineas the following year.
Notable winners of the past have been Rock Of Gibraltar and Sir Ivor, who both went on to record Classic success.
This year’s race is a hard one to call, but it should be noted that Ballydoyle trainer, Aidan O’Brien has won this race no fewer than seven times since 1997 and he could have as many as four runners in this, including the highly regarded Viscount Nelson. Richard Hannon has the very impressive, Dick Turpin running, who nis unbeaten after three starts and Godolphin have Poet’s Voice, who won the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster a fortnight ago.
Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère Tip
Aidan O'Brien's Fencing Master is sure to have plenty of backers as too will the Godolphin trained Buzzword but the French runner, LOPE DE VEGA looks a Colt very much on the upgrade and can land this.
