Arc De Triomphe Contenders 2011 - Workforce

Workforce had a brilliant 2010 when he won both the Epsom Derby and the Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp and the Sir Michael Stoute has stayed in training as a four-year-old with the aim of defending his Arc title. The horse ran a brilliant race at Longchamp in 2010 to win the Arc and that form should not be underestimated when considering the contenders for this years race.

Latest Workforce Arc De Triomphe 2011 Win Odds

There is one major stat against Workforce this season and that is the fact that no horse has won the race back-to-back since Alleged won at Longchamp in 1977 and 1978. Part of that is because many horses are retired following a win in the Arc but nevertheless it would be an almighty effort for Workforce to claim the win again in 2011. We know he is a horse of the highest class though as his 2010 record shows and it would be no surprise to see him going very close again in October.

We saw Workforce run a good race when second in the Coral Eclipse recently behind So You Think, that was over 1m 2f which is clearly short of his best trip and many believe he could reverse that form over the extra Arc distance at Longchamp. He followed up that win in the Arc with a second place in the King George and Queen Elizabath Stakes at Ascot, he hung badly to his left that day which may have cost him the win. In the end he was behind Nathaniel in the race but connections are happy to forgive him the run at Ascot, his record there is not the best and he still went went close to the win.
